Ottawa, ON (November 7, 2018): The Freight Management Association of Canada hosted a Networking Reception on October 10th at the International Centre in Mississauga following the Surface Transportation Summit (STS) hosted by Newcom Business Media, publisher of Canadian Shipper magazine. Shippers, carriers and other industry stakeholders helped FMA celebrate another interesting and challenging year in freight transportation in Canada.

FMA and Newcom decided to try something a little different this year in order to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the Surface Transportation Summit. At the reception, FMA included a beer sampling from the Tool Shed Brewing Company, an Alberta based brewer, with a very unique story. Graham Sherman, the founder of Tool Shed Brewing Company, was the STS closing keynote speaker who enlightened delegates with a story of perseverance and overcoming fears and obstacles to achieve a difficult goal. The inspiring and amusing story led delegates to enjoy 3 different types of Tool Shed own beer at the reception – this would be the first time this Alberta beer was served in Ontario.

The reception brought FMA members, shippers, carriers, and other industry stakeholders together to network and discuss hot topics in freight transportation. FMA President, Bob Ballantyne, invited all delegates to the networking reception to thank all supply chain stakeholders for the work that they do making Canada’s freight transport system work.

FMA would like to thank its many members for giving voice to freight transportation issues that are of interest to shippers and would also like to give a special word of thanks to its Silver Sponsors: Canadian Tire Corporation and Canadian National Railway, as well as its Bronze Sponsors: CITT, Port of Vancouver, Port of Montreal, Canadian Pacific and Quality Transportation Services for supporting the successful reception. The FMA team is looking forward to working with Newcom on next year’s Surface Transportation Summit.
